-May 1987: Graduated from Five Branches Institute of Chinese Medicine in Santa Cruz, CA (1720-hour program)
-March 1988: Licensed after passing the California written and oral state board exams (26% pass rate at the time.) California standards are amongst the most rigorous in the country, and require proficiency in both acupuncture and herbology.
-1988 to 1990: Studied, practiced, worked, and travelled throughout Asia for three years, including Taiwan and mainland China.
-1991 to 1996: Acupuncturist and Clinical Supervisor at Quan Yin Healing Arts Center in San Francisco, specializing in HIV/AIDS, chronic hepatitis B and C, and women’s health.
-1995 to Present: Private practice specializing in women’s health, chronic and complex health disorders, pediatrics, men’s health issues, digestion, musculoskeletal issues, pain, and psychiatric imbalances.
In California, licensed acupuncturists are required to take 50 hours of continuing education courses every two years. I study with the top people in our field, including: Kiiko Matsumoto, Raven Lang, Richard Tan, Misha Cohen, Jeffrey Yuen, Brandon Horn, the late Dr. YiTian Ni, Students of the late Miriam Lee and Master Tong, Various courses in psychology and physiology.
Abigail primarily use Japanese style acupuncture as taught by Kiiko Matsumoto. She also incorporates Chinese style acupuncture and diagnosis from Traditional Chinese Medicine, the lineage of Dr. YiTian Ni, and acupuncture points from Master Tong. At times, I use the Balance Method of Dr. Richard Tan.
